Decanter 94:Their proprietary red blend, produced since 1990, may have taken its name from an idea suggested by wine critic Dan Berger. The wine opens with alluring, lifted aromatics of fragrant sage and unsmoked tobacco woven around pure blackberry fruit and graphite. The palate is satiny-soft and silky, with velvety tannins supporting succulent plum fruit and mocha, which emerge on the full-bodied finish. The Merlot, sourced from the southern end of the estate, handled the growing season particularly well, lending softness and plushness, enhanced by ageing in French Burgundy barrels. Aged for 18 months in approximately 70% new French oak, this is a beautifully balanced and expressive wine.
